FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem commented on the accident of Sergio Perez in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Dutch press reported that the Red Bull driver allegedly crashed intentionally and then admitted it to team management. It was alleged that the accident angered Max Verstappen as it prevented him from improving his time and was the reason for the champion`s refusal to reclaim his position from his team-mate at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Ben Sulayem announced his readiness to conduct an investigation, but so far no one has requested it.

Nobody told us that we need to look into the incident.

But we`re more than willing if there`s something to investigate. I can only say one thing clearly: I am not shy and not afraid to investigate if a problem exists. I won`t hide it. I would even admit it if there was a problem on the part of the FIA - otherwise it is impossible to develop. "I can guarantee this, " said the Federation President.

Formula 1 sporting regulations prohibit deliberately stopping on the track and interfering with opponents. In addition, a staged accident may be considered unsportsmanlike behavior.
